ZIETA STUDIO Zieta Studio is a space where we run a sort of a hybrid design- development- research- production machine. It is a place where technology meets art, design intertwines with research in materials science and engineering, and flat metal membranes are inflated into three-dimensional objects. We are an experimental production studio constantly moving between the virtual and the real world . We're sketching, printing, scanning, optimizing, parameterizing, welding, and making our dreams come true. We are fascinated by reflections, which is why we are fascinated by colour. We see its beauty and its physical properties. We are fascinated by metal, which is why we trust it to deform freely. We look at its properties and study the force vectors. We design through process, allowing our proprietary FiDU technology to play a role just as important as the role of the designers themselves. This process is called "controlled loss of control." We're very much inspired by bionics, and treat it as our encyclopaedia. We draw a lot from biology, and we carefully observe and analyse the complexity of various natural processes and mechanisms. The FiDU technology itself resembles the process in which a dragonfly extends its wings by pumping the body fluid into narrow channels of the wing tissues, as a result of which the wings change their size and characteristics. We use a similar process in metal and refer to it as "volumetric expansion." We create objects of desire out of metal. We deform it from flat membranes into three-dimensional forms. We give our objects a utilitarian dimension and still allow them to be art, a manifesto of our fascination with the material. These are sculpture objects, manifesto objects, objects for generations. ABOUT FiDU FiDU is the name of our technology. It comes from the German Freie Innendruck Umformung, which translates into English as "free inner pressure forming." Flat metal elements are edge-welded, and then, through the process of air pressing, they acquire their final three-dimensional form. FiDU is the process. Oskar Zięta refers to it as "controlled loss of control"—parameters are defined by the creator, but during the "inflation" phase the material retains its freedom to self-deform, resulting in unique edge distortions. The outcome of this process is hollow, lightweight, and incredibly durable objects.
