Waste-Made Kitchen and Tableware
Kitchen & table ware made from waste teak from the roots of a teak tree; a waste product from the teak plantations in Java, Indonesia. Teak root is discarded wood that must be unearthed for new plantings. Local villagers collect, clean, and traditionally handcraft these roots into kitchen and tableware such as plates, bowls, cutlery, and cutting boards. I am handcrafted by a small design organization that supports the local communities of Bali and East Java, Indonesia by creating jobs for marginalized people. Many people benefit from my production; from the local farmers who dig out the enormous roots to the local women who collect the wood shavings for a fire to cook on. I am food safe and treated with non-toxic, natural oils. I may not be perfect but I am 100% original. Just like you!
