Plopp Stool Stainless Steel
The PLOPP stool is an original, iconic object made in FiDU. It is a flagship of Zieta Studio and a symbol of Oskar Zięta’s research into the properties and possibilities of metal. The “Polish Air-Pumped Folk Object” proves how the artistic aspects of the design can be summarized in highly advanced engineering forms. Winner of the Red Dot Design Award 2008, the German Design Council Award 2008, and the Forum AID Award 2009. PLOPP is a manifesto of the FiDU technology and the “controlled loss of control” process. Two ultra-thin steel sheets are welded together around their edges and inflated under high pressure, deforming a 2.5D flat form into a 3D object.
Plopp 100 – Limited Edition
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Zieta Studio and 20 years since the first prototype of the Plopp stool, we have prepared a limited edition of 100 inox objects featuring a commemorative engraving, honouring both jubilees and the appearance of our icon on official stamps of the Polish Post’s Polish Design series.
PLOPP’s family The iconic steel PLOPP stool is a flagship product under the Zieta brand in many of its finishes and sizes. In today’s range, we find PLOPP mini, standard, kitchen, and bar versions. Discover their potential as a functional and modern accent to interiors. Plopp stool made from inflated steel could be 100% recycled, with a slight loss of material quality. Secondly, it is durable and long-lasting - meaning, can serve for generations keeping consumption on a responsible level, and investing in goods won't vanish so quickly. In the end ultralightness - or so-called lightweight index optimization which is considered as literal lightweights - PLOPP is empty inside. And lightness manifested in the virtual dimension. FiDU technology allows creation in steel, copper or aluminum. Designing flat objects that take a 3D form only in the tactile world brilliantly reduces data consumption. PLOPP’s standard 2.5D model consumes 16 kB of memory, while an identical design developed in a 3D model would need as much as 142 GB. This is what we calls a less-is-less approach, thus maximizing the material potential for design, daily functionality, reduced transportation costs, and even the conquest of space. Icon dazzlingly launched Zieta Studio has launched “the new” with neon finishes, setting sail with the iconic PLOPP stool—a metal object that, in neon, truly lives up to its pop-up description as a “toy-like metal stool.” Remarkably, these captivating colours have also found their way onto other Zieta Studio objects. Glowing neon glory Our journey into neon was illuminated recently during ICFF and WantedDesign Manhattan 2023. Zieta Studio touched the American design scene with these dazzling hues, earning a special mention in the decorative accessories category.Currently, these same neon shades grace the showcase in the historic Renoma building in the heart of Wrocław, our home turf, and the site of Zieta Studio’s R&D and design lab. Coloured by the time We do live in an era where the majority of the surrounding objects are modified, improved, and preserved. Within our research about steel we had to first explore its natural, raw potential to be able to optimize its usage. Following the growing necessity for the pureness of processes, lower interference, and a mature attitude to observation, we present the Heat Collection. A raw narrative about the natural features of metal. Beautiful physics lesson and adoration of Mother Earth's powers. The art of heating The Heat Collection was created in cooperation with Rossana Orlandi Gallery, using high temperature as a rarely employed method of steel colouring. Excellent craftsmanship allows achieving the desired tint and colouring. It brings out the hidden beauty of metal without the use of chemical dyes and reagents.
Thermal colouring is rarely used by artists or craftsmen. Zieta Studio has developed its own process, in which computer-controlled furnaces are used to precisely heat metal. When exposed to high temperatures, without the use of dyes or other chemicals, steel naturally turns its original colour into a warm golden shade. Objects treated in this way form the interesting Heat Collection. Range of thermal shades Different colours can be obtained depending on the type of steel used. Objects made of polished stainless steel gain a deep and warm tone of Flamed Gold, without losing their mirror depth. However, carbon steel changes into an intense Cosmic Blue, a deep navy blue that brings to mind the colour of space.
